Business in the post-COVID-19 era

Digital transformation is a path. Here are some of the aspects to consider when forming up our new remote work habits.

The coronavirus pandemic has changed many aspects of our daily lives. From how we plan groceries shopping to how and where we work, today we are faced with the challenge to rethink normal and come up with new business standards for the future. Today we will touch upon three points that would define much of our work efficiency and progress in this new business realm.

Remote work

The first one is obvious. Being able to work remotely turned out to be something we had to learn overnight. We had to quickly get used to video conferencing tools and platforms that made it possible to virtually meet clients, partners and co-workers.

Furthermore, as businesses across the world are gearing up to reopen, larger corporations decided to jump at the opportunity and transform to primarily remote organisations. Cutting some fixed costs aside, remote work eliminates the frustration and time loss associated with daily commute, which results in an overall boost in employee satisfaction.

In order to be able to get the full benefits of working remotely, however, we would need more than video conferencing tools but a solid framework to manage data and business processes as well.

Speed

Once we are set to work remotely and gain full responsibility over our social interactions, we would need to consider what’s the most efficient way to invest our time. As business and personal lives are blending in it is easy to get carried away with work or pay too much attention to minor details. The speed at which we are able to operate is crucial because any delay would eventually mean unnecessary waiting time for our customers down the line.

One way to optimise and ramp up speed of execution is to work faster. That is not a great strategy because we are naturally limited to how swiftly we can execute tasks plus we are running a huge risk of generating many errors while focused on pushing out as much as we could. Therefore, it is much wiser to think about process optimisation and automation. Often a large proportion of work is repetitive and eats up significant amounts of our time.

Connectivity

We can think of connectivity in terms of communication or exchange of data. Once we’ve set a good framework for working remotely and put extra efforts to optimise our workflows we would need to consider how we communicate and connect to various data sources. The “Copy/Paste” process is so deeply enrooted in our business habits that we often refuse to explore better and more efficient ways to communicate data. With data overflowing our channels, however, we need to think of ways to organise and use it in a better way.

Monitoring the progress on deals, following up with clients and analyzing data from multiple silos all require a solid communication framework in order to make a good sense. Therefore, the way we connect to our customer base and our inner circle of team members and co-workers is essential for long-term success.

When we are no longer able to turn around and reach out to our mates at work we are naturally prone to lose touch on deals and clients as well.

To sum up, those were just three out of the multiple aspects to consider when planning a transition to the new business reality of remote work.
